The mission of the Elk Foundation is to ensure the future of elk, other wildlife and their habitat.

In support of this mission the Elk Foundation is committed to:
Conserving, restoring and enhancing natural habitats; Promoting the sound management of wild, free-ranging elk, which may be hunted or otherwise enjoyed; Fostering cooperation among federal, state, tribal and private organizations and individuals in wildlife management and habitat conservation; and Educating members and the public about habitat conservation, the value of hunting, hunting ethics and wildlife management.

The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Fast Facts:                                      
RMEF has protected and conserved more than 5.9 million acres and opened and secured more than 626,000 acres for public access.  More than 7,000 projects have been administered for land protection, habitat stewardship, elk restoration, conservation and education and hunting heritage projects. RMEF have restored elk population in Kentucky, Missouri, North Carolina, Ontario, Tennessee and Wisconsin.  The number of active members in the organization number more than 181,000, the number of chapters in the United States exceeds 5,000 and our volunteers are in excess of 10,000.

The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation founders include Bob Munson, Dan Bull, Bill Munson and Charlie Decker. In 1984, four hunters from Troy, Montana, asked each other, “Can you imagine life without elk and elk hunting?” With the answer a resounding No!, they pooled their talents and resources and created the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation in May of that year.
